Experienced Utility & NRSWA Operative

The ideal candidate for this role will have previous civils experience within the utilities sector and specifically laying underground Duct, water and electrical services. The ideal candidate will need to be able to read plans and drawings and will need to relay information given by the supervisor to their operatives. Our head office is situated in West Penwith, but we carry out works throughout the whole of Cornwall and Devon.

Key Responsibilities:-

  • Responsibility for personal and site safety;
  • Responsible for operating to standards of safety, compliance & competence required by own professional driving qualifications;
  • Carry out general Utilities work as instructed by the Supervisor;
  • Operate and maintain at least two pieces of plant, drive vans, pickup trucks and relevant attachments;
  • Ensure all work complies with relevant Safety, Health and Environmental legislation, business policy & procedure and local instruction & guidance;
  • Ensure full and correct use of vehicles, plant and materials, keeping wastage to a minimum;
  • Develop good relationships with all customers, site agents, project managers and team leaders, and provide site support for customer enquiries;
  • Any ad-hoc duties that may occur as instructed by the management team or team leader / ganger;
  • Communicating with the supervisor and other colleagues as required to update them on progress, timely communication when unexpected issues arise on site;

Key Skills and Essential Qualifications:-

  • UK driving licence and ability to tow excavators (B&E Towing Licence);
  • NRSWA Supervisor or Operative Qualification;
  • Excavator CPCS or NPORS (Plant Operator);
  • Valid CSCS Card;
  • First Aid;
  • Abrasive Wheels;
  • Cat & Geny;
  • Manual Handling;
  • Must be able to be available as part of a Call out rota if required;
  • Able to operate in a flexible and adaptable manner and work as part of a team;
  • Experience in excavation, backfilling & reinstatement of trenches on utility contracts;
  • Have reasonable written and numerical skills;
  • Committed;
