We are currently working with HeartSWell South West, a charity which supports heart patients and their families in Devon and Cornwall, who are seeking to recruit their first Operations Manager. 

The charity’s activities include the provision of:-

  • technologically advanced equipment for hospitals and lifesaving equipment within communities
  • specialist nursing care and counselling
  • overnight accommodation for patients and families receiving treatment at Derriford Hospital
  • campaigning for better services

HeartSWell is growing and changing. They have seen an upsurge in community groups, sports clubs, schools and businesses requesting community access defibrillators with training in how to use this potentially lifesaving equipment.  This role will focus on developing the programme, helping Heartswell to build new networks and raise awareness of cardiac conditions within the community and as a result, increase income from community fundraising .  

Key responsibilities will include:-

  • To establish a clear policy around distribution of defibrillators working with trustee sub group and training team
  • Set annual targets and budgets for the programme
  • Field enquiries and organise a programme of training and distribution with the training team
  • Communicate with recipients to encourage continued fundraising
  • Manage stock levels, order new stock and ensure the budget is balanced
  • Establishing relationships with key medical staff to inform needs of cardiac patients across different points of access
  • To develop knowledge of up to date advances in cardiac care, equipment, NICE approved treatments
  • Provide information for fundraising team to inform bids to grant making trusts
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of the equipment

  • Exceptional people / relationship management skills
  • An knowledge of the voluntary sector
  • Experience of working in the NHS or hospital sector would be an advantage
  • An entrepreneurial approach/commercially astute
  • Ability to prioritise workload and write clear reports Experience of managing budgets
  • Understanding of VAT and charity accounting
  • A  full clean driving licence and have access to their own vehicle
