Application Design Engineer
Application Design Engineer required for a leading aerospace precision engineering company based in Plymouth, the role will be to provide support to their customers, interfacing with Manufacturing and sales team in order to facilitate the development of new business and the subsequent introduction of new products. To provide conceptual solutions for customers application within the scope of the plant capabilities and support other areas of the business with requests of a technical nature within the scope of the role Tasks The essential processes relevant for the application engineer within the company are: - Consultation process - Quotation process - Product development process - Order fulfillment process (esp. change management and complaint processing) The following tasks apply worldwide within the assigned sector. Consultation process - Inspection and completion of the requirements specification in cooperation with the customer - Carrying out/initiating calculation as part of application engineering consultation, product design, and product development - Technical customer consultation in cooperation with Sales Quotation process - Definition of the specifications for the design specification - Coordination of the creation and approval of the design specification in cooperation with the design department and (if applicable) manufacturing department - Approval of the customer delivery drawing (EDD) - Coordination of technical quotation processing in cooperation with Sales e.g.: - Monitoring and tracking of deadlines for the relevant positions with the objective of achieving the shortest possible throughput time for the inquiry/quotation process - Assistance with plausibility checks and (if applicable) estimation of manufacturing costs Product development process - Assistance with the product development process in accordance with the relevant valid procedures and the respective project classification in one of the following roles: - Collaboration in the project (team member) - Subproject management - Project management: - Independent implementation or monitoring of the necessary measures for achieving the gateways This can include: - Integration of specific technical data from the customer - Product design according to specific data from the customer (technical calculation) - DVP, design FMEA Order fulfillment process - Consultation and assistance in the event of complaints/cases of damage/returns analyses and initiation of optimization measures - Decisions regarding internal requests for change and initiation of external requests for change to the product - Assistance in evaluating deviations in production part Assistance in the generation of catalogs and technical publications for sector-specific products in conjunction with the relevant areas Giving presentations and participation in specialized seminars and symposia Qualification / Experience required: Technical degree or comparable training. - A Masters/Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related subject accredited by the governing body, i.e. IMechE - Detailed and practical knowledge of 2D/3D CAD methods, international standards for technical drawing creation - Fluent with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) - Working knowledge of FMEA and FEA The following are desirable but not essential characteristics; - Experience of manufacturing processes and technologies relevant to our or similar products - Experience in the functional and operational characteristics of rotating machinery from an application perspective - Qualified 6 Sigma Green Belt - Working knowledge of ProEngineer, Project management tools - Fluency in written and spoken languages, in particular (but not limited to) French and German If you feel you can demonstrate the required skills and experience for the above vacancy, and are currently looking for a new challenge then please submit an up to date CV by using the 'apply' button below.
