Leading the Change! Advanced Practitioners in Cornwall

We believe that the children of Cornwall deserve the very best. They are at the heart of our programme to raise expertise and the status of children's social work. Cornwall is at the forefront of the redesign of social work for children, bringing to fruition the recommendations made by Professor Eileen Munro.

Investment in our social work workforce is at the heart of our plans, and we want the best practitioners to remain in front line practice.

In recognition of this, and in line with The PCF from The College of Social Work, we have developed an Advanced Practitioner role:

Principal Social Workers have a specific role in frontline teams:

Provide a high quality statutory social work service in complex cases
Under the leadership of the Team Manager provide professional supervision within the team
Play a key role in developing excellent practice within your team and the wider service.
Work closely with the Principal Child and Family Social Worker and Practice Educators to build learning teams within a changing organisational culture.

There is one PSW in each frontline team, and we currently have vacancies in:

Disabled Children and Therapy Teams in Mid Cornwall
Child in Need Teams in Liskeard, Launceston, St Austell and Redruth
Child Protection Teams in Bodmin, St Austell, Camborne and Penzance
Child in Care team in St Austell
Family Plus, County wide

We want the best practitioners to remain in front line practice and for that reason we pay the same as the front line managers. We will also

Reimburse HCPC registration fees
Provide access to the core curriculum - a high quality programme of learning and development to enhance skills and practice.
A relocation package for eligible candidates.

This is a wonderful opportunity for experienced, qualified social workers with a proven track record in excellent practice and continued professional development to help us bring about the fundamental and lasting change in how we practice social work, to safeguard the children and young people of Cornwall.

Please note that the nature of this role requires travel to rural locations which are not serviced by public transport.

This position will be subject to an enhanced Criminal records disclosure check.

Cornwall Council is committed to safeguarding and is an equal opportunities employer.
